Long term care is a series of medical services administered to people with chronic illnesses or long term disability. It encompasses both medical and non-medical aids. It is so called because of the relatively lengthy duration for which a patient requires medical care assistance. There are two types of long term care. One is non-skilled long term care and the other is care provided by licensed professionals. Non-skilled care provides support to daily chores. This may include dressing up, bathing, and using the bathroom. Licensed professionals provide specialized and customized treatment throughout the entire healing period. They provide services to the more seriously ill and disabled patients.
