Femodene, Femulen and Noriday – An overview of Contraceptive Pill
Women have started using contraceptive pills as a means to avoid getting pregnant. Some women are more comfortable with using combination pills such as Femodene. This pill contains two artificial female hormones of oestrogen and progestogen as its active ingredients. The active ingredients of this pill are ethinylestradiol (an artificial oestrogen) and gestodene (an artificial progestogen). This pill has been proven to be almost 100% effective in prevention of conception. The pill is best effective if taken on the very first day of your periods. Femodene is usually prescribed to women who are suffering from painful, heavy or irregular periods, continuous menstrual bleeding and premenstrual tensions.
Some women are more comfortable in taking mini pills that are available, which contain only one artificial female hormone, progestogen. Femulen is one of the most popular mini pills used by women. The artificial progestogen present in this pill as its active ingredient is etynodiol diacetate. This pill has been proven to be almost 99% effective in protecting women against pregnancy. Femulen is more suitable for those women, who are allergic to oestrogen, who are above 35 and smoke, are breastfeeding and whose blood pressure increases by taking combination pills.
Noriday is another mini pill, which at times is also referred to as 'progestogen only pill'. This pill has also been proven to be almost 100% effective in preventing pregnancy in women. The active ingredient present in this pill is norethisterone. It works by preventing ovulation from occurring and altering womb lining, so as to avoid a produced egg from developing further. You are required to take Noriday for all 28 days of your menstrual cycle, and it is the most effective if taken on the very first day of your periods. Some of the side effects of this pill include changes in your menstrual bleeding, headaches and times you can also experience changes in your sex drive.
